What Is Your Brand?

Branding is something that has become so fascinating to me. I work for an awesome company doing marketing and have been learning so much about creating and establishing a brand.

The term "brand" can be used many different ways. You can brand a cow, be branded as something, or have a favorite

brand. Essentially, a brand is a mark.

According to businessdictionary.com, branding involves " creating a unique name and image for a product in the consumers' mind, mainly through advertising campaigns with a consistent theme. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers." From the business side, branding is how a company makes its mark in the mind of the public.

Think of your favorite brands. Maybe Chick-fil-A, Target, Disney World, or MAC come to mind. Think of what words and feelings you associate with your favorite brand. Or think of a brand you hate. These are examples of companies that left their mark on you.

Learning about branding at work has me thinking a lot of my "personal brand". What kind of mark am I leaving in the hearts and minds of others? What do people think of when they see me, hear my name, interact with me?

These kinds of questions correlate strongly with my faith as a Christian. To be a Christian is to bear the brand or the "mark" of Christ and the person He is. I know who Jesus is to me. I know that He is a strong, beautiful, passionate, connected God who is real to me. Do people see that Jesus in me?

Honestly, probably not most of the time.

I've been thinking for a while of what I want this blog to look like. I love writing, I love fitness, I love Jesus, and I love helping people, especially fellow women. If this blogs helps inspire or encourage even one person, that is all I could ever hope.

I want my brand, whether that is me as Sarah out and about in the real world or me as Red Wine & Weights here on this blog, to stand for the 4 core principles: strength, beauty, passion, and connection.

Over the next few posts, I want to dive deeper into those principles and what they mean to me as they relate to faith, fitness, and community.

What is your brand? What do you want to portray to the world? Let me know!

Remember, ladies, you are strong, beautiful, passionate, and connected.
